DENTSPLY Indirect Restorations Team

DENTSPLY's indirect restorative team understand that crowns and bridges are amongst the most demanding dental procedures, and so would like to talk you through how they can best meet your needs. By working together, they help you to "get it right first time".

Preparation with Mrs Hi-Di
"Diamonds are a Bur's Best Friend"

The tooth first has to be prepared for the restoration. After isolating the site to block moisture and contamination, any tooth decay that is present is cut away from the tooth. The enamel of the tooth generally needs to be filed down and shaped to accomodate the size of the restoration.

Tooth preparation for full coverage indirect restorations must be accomplished in a systematic, rapid and atraumatic manner. For decades, diamond instruments have been the gold standard as the tool of choice in accomplishing these goals. Diamonds are safe, effective tools with a lower risk of potential iatrogenic tooth fracture.

The Ash Hi-Di range of diamond burs use natural diamonds, resulting in faster cutting which saves you time in the procedure. The Hi-Di burs have multi-layered diamonds meaning they have a longer expected life span. "Diamonds are a bur's best friend!"

Impression Taking with Mr Aquasil
"Always makes a Great Impression"

A number of properties and qualities need to be considered when selecting an impression material. DENTSPLY's Aquasil Ultra is a quadrafunctional vinyl polysiloxane which includes benefits such as improved wettability, improved tear strength, a range of viscosities and it is user friendly and well tolerated by patients.

Hydrophilicity is often referred to as 'wettability' and is an important feature of impression materials as the material has to cover moist surfaces and record detailed information. This property in Aquasil Ultra is improved by the addition of 'surfactants'. Polyvinyl siloxane materials are inherently hydrophobic which reduces the wettability of the material. The surfactants in Aquasil Ultra overcome this to produce a material that develops low contact angles early in the setting reaction. This reduces voids and bubbles and results in more accurate impressions.

The material must be strong enough (good tear resistance) to allow the impression to be removed from undercuts without tearing. Aquasil Ultra has high tear resistance which ensures the exact reproduction of preparation margins.

Aquasil Ultra is available in a range of different delivery methods, including machine mix, cartridges and digit dose.

Provisional Restorations with Mrs Integrity
"Looks that Last"

Provisional restorations have various purposes including restoring function, comfort and aesthetics for the patient, tooth vitality, maintain gingival health and diagnosis for the final restoration. DENTSPLY provides a provisional restoration solution; namely Integrity provisional crown and bridge material and Integrity TempGrip temporary cement.

Integrity is a chemically cured provisional / temporary Bis-acryl composite crown & bridge material and is available in 4 shades: A1, A2, A3.5, and B1. The key benefit of Integrity is its aesthetically pleasing and long lasting result. This will keep your patients happy as they can leave the practice feeling confident in themselves and will reassure them of the final, permanent restoration.

Integrity TempGrip allows smooth seating of the Integrity provisional restoration, with a creamy feel and non-drip flow. The key thing about Integrity TempGrip is that the material stays in the crown and not on the tooth when removed, which means easier and quicker removal of the provisional restoration.

Permanent Cementation with Mr SmartCem2 and Mr Calibra
"Strength in Simplicity" or "Strength and Versatility?"

SmartCem2 self-adhesive cement is strong yet easy to apply, and Calibra aesthetic resin cement again is strong but can be used for a wider range of indications.

In vitro studies of SmartCem2 have shown the material to have high bond strengths to enamel and dentine; high retentive strength in crown-pull studies; and high bond strengths to indirect restorative materials including composite, base material, noble metal and all-ceramic materials. Other studies have found no microleakage at either the enamel or dentine interface; minimal water solubility and sorption; and expansion over a six-month period in water storage of less than 1%.

Resin cements, such as Calibra, are the most versatile and widely used cements for non-metallic restorations, resin-bonded fixed partial dentures, ceramic crowns and porcelain veneers, as well as ceramic and resin composite inlays and onlays. Aesthetic resin composite cements are supplied in multiple shades, viscosities and aesthetic try-in pastes.
