DENTSPLY's flowable composite, X-Flow™ has ushered in a new era of flowable restorative materials. X-Flow combines excellent physical properties with an innovative and unique delivery system. X-Flow is indicated for minimal invasive restorations, cavity lining, and repair of direct and indirect restorations. It combines excellent flow behaviour with being the hardest wearing flowable composite on the market. In addition to the excellent physical properties, X-Flow is contained in a new, unique delivery system called a compula. The compula is a combination of a compule and a cannula and offers the convenience of the compule with the accurate placement of a cannula. The long, thin metal tip provides the precision needed for direct application of X-Flow to deep and hard-to-reach areas or cavities. This unique delivery system makes X-Flow an ideal product for minimally invasive dentistry. X-Flow is a universal partner for diverse light cure materials and can therefore be used either as a liner with any composite, compomer or ormocer. This flexibility is invaluable when a flowable composite is required to repair existing restorations. To summarise, X-Flow offers easy and accurate placement, a smooth flow without flowing over the cavity margins and easy finishing. Add to this the fact that it is a universal partner to almost all light-cured composites and compomers and you have a unique and highly flexible flowable composite.

X- flow is available in 5 Vita shades: B1, A2, A3, A4, C2 as well as two additional shades: one opaque (O-A3) and one translucent (TL). Each compula has a different coloured cap for easy differentiation between shades.
Each compula contains 0.25g of material
X-flow exhibits a well-balanced, thixotropic flow behavior. It’s initial viscosity decreases under the stress of extrusion from the compula and it flows out easily under pressure. The viscosity of the material builds up again when the extrusive force decreases. This allows easy adaptation to the cavity walls during placement – without the material flowing over the cavity walls.
X flow is indicated for: Minimally invasive dentistry (small, non-occlusal stress-bearing restorations; pit and fissure sealing; shallow cervical lesions); cavity lining; margin repair of direct and indirect restorations; adhesive luting of porcelain or composite inlays and onlays (if they allow enough light transmission to the tooth-restoration surface); and for blocking out undercuts in connections with preparation of indirect restorations.
X-flow can be freely used with any light-cured restorative material. X- flow has been tested and found to be fully compatible with all light-cured restorative materials, namely composites, compomers and ormocers. Test results show that the adhesion of X-flow to composites varies between 13 to 25 MPa.
Any bonding agent can be used with X-Flow but Dentsply products (Prime&Bond NT, Xeno® V and XP BOND) are recommended.
20 seconds for shades A2, A3, B1, C2 and TL, and 40 seconds for shades A4 and O-A3.
Not necessarily, the particles used are extremely fine (1.6 micron average particle size) and they make the material appear glossy and shiny. If you want finish and polish, we recommend Enhance Finishing and Polishing Discs and interproximal strips.
X-Flow exhibits a high compressive strength (more than 300 MPa) and the highest Vickers hardness (54+/- 0.9) in its class ensures good abrasion resistance. X-Flow’s flexural strength is 82 MPa (after 24 Hours of storage in water) and is comparative to other flowable materials in the market. The radio-opacity is as high as that of enamel (2mm Al). X-flow has a fairly low sensitivity to ambient light, giving you the advantage a long working time of 120sec. The polymerization shrinkage of X-FlowTM is 5% and is comparable to many other flowable materials.
X- flow only offered in the compula delivery system. The thin metallic canulla is ideal for a pinpoint application and allows the clinician to have an excellent view into deep cavities.
X-flow has a shelf-life of 18 months from date of manufacture.
No, it can be stored at room temperature.
It should not be used: for luting crowns and veneers; for core build-up for full ceramic crowns; when moisture control cannot be guaranteed during application (deep subgingival cavity margins); for permanent restorations of occlusal stress-bearing cavities in permanent posterior teeth; or in patients with a known allergy to dimethacrylate resins and the other components of X-flow.
